Moving to Manhattan, KS
A local owner’s guide to the Little Apple: getting your bearings, the K-State and Fort Riley calendars, and where storage makes a move easier.
Welcome to the Little Apple
Locally owned storage for Manhattan, K-State, and Fort Riley
We are a group of local owners who live and work here, so this is the short version of what we tell new neighbors.
Manhattan is a college and military town in the Flint Hills, built around Kansas State University and a short drive from Fort Riley. Most people get their bearings by campus, post, and the two lakes, with K-State and Aggieville near the center and newer neighborhoods spreading north and west.
Wherever you are landing, an owner is a call or text away, and we are glad to help you plan the move.
Getting your bearings
What to know about Manhattan
A quick orientation for anyone new to town.
Campus
Kansas State University
K-State anchors the town. Fall move-in lands in mid-August and spring move-out in May, so Manhattan fills and empties on the school calendar. Aggieville sits right by campus.
Post
Fort Riley
Fort Riley is just west of town toward Junction City. Summer is the busy PCS season, when report dates and housing dates rarely line up.
Outdoors
The Flint Hills and lakes
Tuttle Creek sits north of town and Milford to the west, both popular for boating and camping. The Konza Prairie and the Linear Trail are minutes away.
Town
A growing community
Downtown, the Flint Hills Discovery Center, and the Manhattan Town Center sit near the middle, with new neighborhoods spreading along the north and west sides.
Storage for your move
When storage helps a Manhattan move
A move is the most common reason neighbors call us.
If you are here for K-State, a small unit bridges the gap between leases or holds what does not fit yet. See K-State student storage.
PCSing to or from Fort Riley? Month-to-month terms, a 10% military discount, and no-contact online rental cover the gap when your dates do not line up. See military and PCS storage.
Bringing a boat, RV, or camper to the lakes? Keep it on a gated, well-lit lot between trips. See vehicle, RV, and boat storage.
Not sure what size you need? Compare unit sizes or call an owner and we will help you pick before you pay.

Amazing experience from Axis Self Storage. The communication is phenomenal and they answer all your questions. Great security on the units, too. The only storage place I will use in the area.

The cleanest and most supportive in town. Rented twice, once in summer and once in winter, with no issues. They even extended me a few days when my flight got canceled. Highly recommend.
